The Book of Mormon Days 1-2

This year we will be studying the Book of Mormon together.  This first video depicts several youth from Eastern Europe who had powerful experiences in their personal study of The Book of Mormon.  This page will contain information to help you prepare for class daily and come ready to teach each other from the Book of Mormon.

1 Nephi 1-4
We will spend 2 days in these chapters.  The objective the first day will be to help you see different ways to read and understand the stories in the Book of Mormon, and to show you a couple of examples of powerful things that can be learned as we study the Book of Mormon in different lights.

Questions to consider in your personal study and ways to consider reading:

Symbolism:
In 1 Nephi 4:31-38, how can Nephi be a type/foreshadow of Jesus Christ?  2 Nephi 11:4 and Moses 6:63 teach us that all things testify of Christ.  What do you learn about the Savior from Nephi's example in these verses?

In this same passage (1 Nephi 4:31-38) we can learn a bit about the importance and power of covenants.  What do you see in these verses that helps us understand the importance/power of covenants?

"Life Lessons":
We always talk about the "go and do" Nephi, but sometimes neglect to see where Nephi had to humble himself and change.  1 Nephi 2:16,19 shows an example.  It was likely not easy for Nephi to be taken from his home, his high school (possibly), his friends, his comforts, etc.  When he hears this, he is a bit hard hearted about it.  What does Nephi do to have a change of heart and become the "go and do" Nephi we know and love?  What life lesson can we learn about how to deal with hard things that come from God?

Using context and rewriting:
In 1 Nephi 4, Nephi has the experience of being "led by the Spirit, not knowing beforehand the things which [he] should do."  Consider 1 Nephi 4:6-7 and what is happening, and rewrite the verses in modern day language/your own words.  What life lesson can we learn from this experience where Nephi ends up with the plates, but didn't know how he was going to get there?
